    Vera is a British crime drama television series based on the Vera Stanhope novels by Ann Cleeves. It ran on ITV for 14 years from 1 May to 2 January and starred Brenda Blethyn as the principal character, Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope.

    Vera is a nearly retired detective chief inspector of the fictional Northumberland & City Police, who is obsessive about her work. She plods along in a dishevelled state but has a calculating mind and despite her irascible personality, she cares deeply about her work and colleagues. She often proves her superior skills by picking up small errors in her team members' thought processes. Vera forms a close relationship with sergeants Joe Ashworth and Aiden Healy.[1]

    The series is filmed in Newcastle upon Tyne and throughout Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire in North East England.     On Sunday, Vera fans tuned in to watch the final episode of series 11 of the ITV cop drama. DCI Vera Stanhope (played by Brenda Blethyn) was back with her sidekick, Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty), as they attempted to solve another murder. As the programme came to a close, the show paid a moving tribute to crew member Mark Allen, who died earlier this year. A number of Vera stars and fans also took to social media following the episode to pay a tribute to Mark, who worked in the art department on the show. The actor who plays Aiden said he would miss Mark's "laugh and twinkle".

    Kenny, who plays Aiden, led the tributes with a moving post on Twitter.

    In view of his 23, followers, Kenny penned: “Thank you for lovely messages. Wonderful ep & fantastic cast & director @cebohon1.

    “Big respect to our crew. Especially Mark Allen - who sadly passed away.
